SOMERSET, N.J. – July 22, 2003 –Netilla® Networks,
Inc., the SSL VPN leader that provides secure remote access
to the broadest range of enterprise applications, today announced that
Commonwealth Health Corporation has implemented Netilla’s Web-based
remote access platform across its entire integrated delivery network.
The premier health service provider in south-central Kentucky, Commonwealth
operates hospitals in Bowling Green, Franklin and Scottsville, with
a total of 542 beds. Commonwealth selected the Netilla Security Platform
G-Class to provide its thousands of physicians and staff with secure
remote access to vital patient information across its network.
Netilla’s versatile Web-based approach marks a significant advance
over existing VPN remote access solutions by eliminating the time and
cost of installing applications on the remote user’s PC. The
Netilla platform uses SSL encryption — the proven technology
embedded in today’s Web browsers — for secure access to
remotely hosted applications. Through Netilla, both affiliated and
on-staff physicians can monitor the status of their patients and securely
connect to centralized hospital applications. These applications include
MEDITECH’s HIS/CIS System, AMS’ Sovera HIM Document Imaging
Solution, Fuji Medical’s Picture Archiving and Communication
Systems (PACS), intranet applications, Microsoft Windows and other
commonly used programs.
“We chose Netilla to solve our geographic issues and for its
ease of use, but it is quickly becoming a competitive weapon,” said
Matt Ebaugh, senior vice president and chief information officer at
Commonwealth. “Functionality is very good, and performance is
excellent. Through a single-user interface and with only a Web browser,
our staff now has access to their patient information regardless of
their location — in one of our hospitals, in their own office,
at home or even at a patient’s bedside. Netilla’s security
satisfies HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
of 1996) mandates, and it’s easy to use. Support calls to our
IT department have been reduced by 20 percent, and doctors are spending
less time worrying about technology and have more time for patients.”
Using the Netilla Security Platform, Commonwealth’s staff of
more than 2,500 healthcare professionals will be able to access hospital
applications and tools or patient documents without the need to install
additional software on an individual PC. Commonwealth is also piloting
a wireless program that will allow doctors to access test results on
tablet PCs while making rounds and to receive up-to-the-minute information
critical to their patients without being tied to one location. “Doctors
love the remote-access capabilities because it’s so easy
to use, and they get the screen they’re used to, from anywhere.
They can sign off on chart completion, for example, from home,” said
Ebaugh.
“The Netilla remote access platform is especially beneficial
for healthcare organizations, which typically have a distributed network
of locations and professionals who can all benefit from gaining secure
remote access to centralized business systems,” said Reggie Best,
president and chief executive officer of Netilla Networks. “Our
Netilla Security Platform is an ideal tool for the healthcare industry,
maximizing medical providers’ use of time, helping hospitals
to attract the best doctors and caregivers, and allowing for better
patient services – all while ensuring the privacy that patients
need and deserve.”
In May, Netilla announced the Netilla Security Platform Release 4.0,
which combines secure remote access to the broadest range of applications
with comprehensive user authentication and policy capabilities. With
Release 4, Netilla added two important new capabilities to its browser-based
VPN: secure access to enterprise intranet and Web applications via
HTTP reverse proxy, and application synchronization via Netilla’s
unique Virtual Adapter, which allows users to connect any local desktop
application to central servers through an encrypted SSL tunnel. These
new features augment Netilla’s longstanding ability to provide
clientless remote access to centralized client/server and legacy applications
running on mainframe, UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows servers.
