Netilla GeNIE Streamlines Remote Software Updates

SOMERSET, New Jersey - Dec. 16, 2002 - Netilla® Networks, Inc., a provider of SSL virtual private network products for secure Web-based remote access to corporate networks, today announced Release 3.1 of its Netilla Security Platform. This comprehensive software upgrade includes internationalization features that will enable enterprises around the world to use the Netilla platform for fast, secure remote access. Another key new feature, the Netilla Software Upgrade GeNIESM, saves users and resellers time by automating the process of receiving future software upgrades.

Release 3.1 of the Netilla Security Platform is now being distributed by the company's network of authorized integrators to all customers covered by maintenance plans.

The Netilla Security Platform simplifies the deployment of enterprise-strength remote access while providing enhanced security. The Netilla appliance enables enterprises to provide remote or mobile workers with secure access to centralized corporate applications via just a Web browser. Netilla's Web-based "thin client" approach marks a significant advance over existing virtual private networking (VPN) alternatives by eliminating the time and cost of installing applications on the remote user's PC. The Netilla platform provides seamless remote access to Windows, UNIX/Linux and even mainframe applications, with no modifications.

"Our new internationalization capabilities, which equip the Netilla Security Platform to operate in virtually any geographic market, are a direct response to the strong product demand we're experiencing from around the world, including Asian markets," said Mark Brugger, director of product management at Netilla.

"Netilla's new GeNIE will save us a great deal of time by letting us schedule remote software updates for our customers in advance, and automatically perform the updates at the same time," said Edward Carley, president of Innovative Computing and Networking, Inc., a Netilla integrator in Somerset, N.J.

At the heart of Netilla's new international capabilities is its support for Unicode UTF-8. Unicode is a global standard (www.unicode.org) that assigns a unique number for every character in every language (including Chinese and Japanese), providing the framework for worldwide use of a program or application. Unicode compliance enables the Netilla platform to accept international characters for user input/output as well as communication with back-end application servers. In addition, many Netilla user interfaces (such as the log-in screen for remote users) can be easily customized for translation to support local languages.

The Netilla Software Upgrade GeNIE (General Netilla Installation Engine) automates the process of future software upgrades and updates, saving time and money for both resellers and end-users. The GeNIE can quickly analyze the user's current platform, so that only the minimum required new modules are installed; the system also preserves user profiles and system configurations when performing upgrades. For maximum flexibility, upgrades can be handled in several ways. A reseller can schedule updates to many Netilla platforms to be automatically performed from Netilla's site, with no end-user intervention. Alternatively, one can access the platform's administrative GUI to pull the update from the Netilla site on demand; or the update can be sent offline via a CD.

This latest release also includes enhancements to Netilla's Secure Realm Framework for multi-layered authentication and authorization. The platform now supports authentication against an external Kerberos server (in addition to RSA SecurIDâ, Microsoft Windows NT/2000, and RADIUS authentication), allowing seamless integration with Windows 2000 Active Directory implementations of Kerberos. Further, users can now log in with different usernames at each authentication stage, for greater security and application flexibility.

Additional enhancements in Release 3.1 include:

· Session shadowing: Administrators can now "shadow" or monitor remote Netilla users; a useful feature for help-desk and training functions.

· 3270 mainframe enhancements including scripting and keyboard mapping for ease of use.

· PKI client-side certificate support, which allows customers to produce and deploy their own certificates in order to restrict access to the Netilla platform to specific machines.
