Basking Ridge, NJ, March 20, 2001
AT&T, members of the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area's high-tech
business community and local officials today celebrated the grand opening
of AT&T's Internet Data Center (IDC) in Secaucus. The facility,
which officially opened for business in December, provides the web hosting
services that are essential for dot-coms, content providers and enterprise
customers.. The 160,000-square-foot facility is part of the continued
expansion of AT&T's network of state-of-the-art IDCs designed to
support complex Web Hosting. Customer demand is so high that approximately
40 percent of the center is already committed.
"The Secaucus IDC, like all of our IDCs, is truly a distribution
hub for the networked economy," said Kathleen Earley, president,
AT&T Data and Internet Services. "This is where companies will
meet to transact business and manage all kinds of applications. Hosting
centers just make sense as companies look for ways to best leverage
their balance sheets -- especially during uncertain economic times..
The network-based applications and services available through our IDCs
are efficient, cost-effective and flexible."
AT&T currently has 16 IDCs, providing businesses with 1.5 million
square feet of conditioned Web hosting space worldwide. AT&T IDCs
connect to AT&T's IP coast-to-coast OC-192 IP backbone and its IP-enabled,
high-speed private data networks. This allows customers to seamlessly
connect their public Web sites with their back-office operations.
AT&T is continuing on its path to grow to two million square feet
of Web hosting capacity and to add a total of eight new centers in 2001,
bringing the number of AT&T IDCs to 21 by year-end. Three other
AT&T Internet Data Centers, located in the Washington, D.C., Dallas
and Atlanta metropolitan areas, also recently opened for business.
One of the first companies to move into the Secaucus center is Netilla
Networks, a networking service company. Its service allows businesses
to use the Web as a secure extension to their office networks, enabling
authorized users to access shared software applications.
"We needed a strong, reliable hosting provider who could guarantee
24-by-7 availability of our Web site, which provides systems integrators
with the tools to install, maintain and monitor their customers' Netilla
Virtual Office (sm) service," said Reggie Best, Netilla Networks
CEO. "We chose AT&T because it provides us with flexible and
scaleable services in a secure, reliable hosting environment."
Joining in the grand opening celebration are New Jersey Assemblyman
Anthony Impreveduto, Secretary Charles E. Hance of the NJ Commerce and
Economic Growth Commission, and Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell.
New Jersey/New York Metro area IDC customers will have access to AT&T's
full portfolio of managed hosting services, including application management,
database management, hardware and operating system management, intelligent
content distribution service, high availability data and computing services,
network and bandwidth management, storage services, managed security
and firewall services, and professional services.
